Delta Education Trust, which includes The Quay School in Poole, has submitted an application for a new Special School for 60 students with ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorders) and related conditions including Anxiety and Speech and Language needs, to open in 2017/18.

This application represents many months of dedication and hard work. To complete the lengthy application form Delta Education Trust had to write detailed education plans and demonstrate viability, put together a strong team and engage with the local community.

If our application is approved, the next stage will be a rigorous interview with the Department for Education after which we will hear whether the proposed school has been given the green light.

Jo Perry, CEO:

“This is an exciting opportunity to develop a special place to learn at the heart of our community where each child will be able to develop their individual skills and talents and flourish. This is just the beginning of our journey and there are many challenges to come.I would like to thank council officers, Quay School parents, staff and Governors who have provided unstinting support throughout the application process.”

Delta Education Trust was supported through the application process by national education charity New Schools Network.

Nick Timothy, Director of New Schools Network:

“There are now nearly 450 free schools open or approved to open across the country. The Harbour School joins a growing number of schools, teachers, parents and other organisations that have taken up the challenge of proposing a new school designed to meet the particular needs of their community.

“Preparing an application for the Department for Education is on its own a huge commitment and we hope they will have the chance to put their plans into action.”

Plans underway for 2016 Sponsored Walk

Staff and Students at the Parkstone campus of The Quay School are now raising funds for this year’s sponsored walk in aid of the ‘Young Minds’ charity.

Last year members of the Quay School braved the wet and windy shores of the Jurassic Coast while completing the trek from Boscombe to Bournemouth and back again.

After the success of last year, we hope to raise even more money this June. Young Minds are the UK’s leading charity committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people.
